Big News and Big Moves
Dear Friends,
Recently, my teenage daughter told me how angry she is. How adults are failing her generation by doing things the way they’ve always done. How we need to do things differently, think differently… and gather the courage to address new challenges in ways we never have before. “Leaders today have a narrow-minded way of navigating problems,” she declared.
I’ve been thinking about her words and how they gave shape to what I’ve been feeling intuitively.
And I’ve just made a big move that has freed me up to do things differently: After nearly 20 years of living and working inside the Beltway, I’ve just relocated to Arizona. As many of you who’ve worked with me know, it has been my goal to move back out West and I couldn’t be happier — or more excited about what’s next.
So, what does my big move mean for people that choose to work with me?
First, it solidifies 2050 Strategies as a virtual consultancy. This was always my vision: to grow steadily, but be unencumbered by expenses that come with living and working in the D.C. area, and have the flexibility to evolve in exciting new ways.
Now that I’ve finally settled in, I’m hyper-focused on growing 2050 Strategies. My hope is to eventually add capacity to help more organizations build the future we need and ensure that democracy, human rights and the environment are prioritized and protected by our leaders.
Lastly, I’m fixated on how I can bring a fresh approach to the work to meet the moment, heeding my daughter’s admonition that it’s our job to figure out how to protect her generation and vastly improve the world they are stepping into, but which many see as collapsing around them.
What “best practices” are no longer serving us? Is conventional messaging guidance past its prime given the challenges of climate change, COVID, corruption, inequality and more? What have we learned that is worth unlearning? I’m curious about these questions, and hope you are too.
During the past year and a half since I started 2050 Strategies, I’ve worked with incredible organizations including Public Justice, Global Fund for Women, Open Markets Institute, and Public Citizen (you can read a few testimonials about my work here.) I can’t wait to help others working toward the just and healthy future that we all deserve, and that young people are demanding of us.
